MineWare founder honoured in helping develop Queensland as a hub for mining

MineWare founder and CEO, Andrew Jessett, was presented with The Mercedes Benz Young Business Person of the Year Award at the 2009 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards Gala Dinner in Brisbane City Hall last month. He was recognised for his commitment to building a strong Brisbane-based business and developing Queensland as a hub for mining innovation. Jessett independently created and commercialised the world’s most advanced dragline monitor system (Pegasys) and, since 2005, has successfully grown MineWare into a recognised leader in mine and heavy equipment monitoring technology.

Jessett said he was honoured to accept the prestigious award, attributing his success to the dedicated people at MineWare and the company’s strong partnership approach to working with industry, government and education. “This award is a tremendous achievement that recognises the collective hard work and creativity of the entire MineWare team,” he said. “It acknowledges our leadership role in the development of innovative technology that more efficiently and effectively monitors the operations of heavy, open cut coal mining equipment such as draglines and shovels.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be part of Brisbane’s rapid growth and development in mining technology, which contributes more than A$1 billion to the economy,” he said. “As a city, we’re home to some of the world’s most innovative individuals and companies.”

According to the Invest Brisbane report into the mining technology services sector, 60% of the world demand for mining software is sourced from Brisbane, while the clear majority of Queensland’s 300 mining technology service providers operate in Brisbane.

MineWare is a leading, international provider of sophisticated technologies for open-pit coal mining. It offers an innovative range of solutions – including the Pegasys Dragline Monitor and world’s first remote dragline management tool, m-roc. Under Jessett’s leadership, MineWare’s commitment to technology development is driving key improvements in how the coal mining industry performs, measures and reports on the efficiency, safety and performance of mining operations and equipment.

According to Brisbane Marketing, Andrew’s following achievements reigned supreme for the judges:

He independently created and commercialised the world’s most advanced Dragline Monitor System (Pegasys)

He increased Pegasys’ market share from 0 to almost 50% of the Australian market within four years

The remote management mining software is really the direction mining is heading, and MineWare is at the forefront of this

Before creating the software, Andrew had no previous business ownerships or leadership experience

Andrew is committed to his professional development, currently undertaking an MBA with QUT and executive management courses with the AICD.

Jessett established MineWare in 2005 after creating and commercialising Pegasys. Today, he continues to oversee the company’s growth and development in delivering sophisticated mine and heavy equipment monitoring technologies to the Australian and Iiternational open-pit mining industries.
