ESG to offer complete legislative and regulatory environmental compliance solution

Environmental Scientifics Group, to be commonly known as ESG, is the new name for the combined expertise of Scientifics and the Environmental Services Group encompassing brands such as Soil Mechanics, TES Bretby, PMC and CL Voelker. The group of companies, initially brought together by Inspicio (a testing and inspection services company), offer a complete solution for all legislative and regulatory environmental compliance from the ground up. The companies operate in areas such as geotechnical and energy testing, environmental safety compliance and laboratories and analytical services.

With a history dating back more than 100 years, and with more than 1,000 employees working in 26 offices nationwide, the ESG group was formally launched a week ago by Sir Steve Redgrave at the Churchill War Rooms, London, UK.

The launch, ‘The New Gold Standard,’ signals the development of a new framework aimed at making it easier for customers to use ESG’s diverse range of services. The businesses will work together ‘as one’ for the benefit of clients, rather than as a collection of individual business units. The launch shows ESG’s strong commitment to customer service and continued investment to achieve excellence. The brands, Soil Mechanics, Scientifics, TES Bretby, PMC and CL Voelker, known and respected in their respective sectors, will remain.

ESG provides expert test, analysis and advice that is UKAS accredited and fully industry and legislatively compliant, providing customers with a high quality and timely service. Alex Sleeth, CEO, ESG said: “Our aim with ESG is to have a business which works in partnership with our customers to provide a total solution across a unique range of environmental inspection, testing and consultancy services. We pride ourselves on the levels of accreditation standards the businesses hold which ensure our standards are at the forefront of our industry.”

Expansion

ESG is expanding already. It announced today that it intends to acquire the Geotechnical and Testing Services Division (GTS) of Bureau Veritas UK Holdings, a provider of testing services. The acquisition will strengthen each of ESG’s divisions – Geotechnical and Energy, Laboratories and Analytical and Environmental Safety Compliance by expanding its national coverage and UKAS accredited laboratory network.

With nine locations across England and Scotland, GTS offer a range of expertise, including geotechnical engineering; structural investigation; materials testing; soil testing; specialist metallurgy engineering and analytical chemistry. It has more than 2,000 customers and all GTS’s laboratories are UKAS accredited and the Consultancy Services business is accredited with BS 9000:2000 and 14001:2004. The deal is expected to complete in December 2009.

Robin Hastie, Managing Director, GTS: “Inspicio is a well respected name in the inspection and testing market and its businesses have a reputation for quality and data integrity. GTS is a niche business with an excellent reputation and we are confident that its new home within the Environmental Scientifics Group will be good for both customers and employees alike.”
