Effective protection for hydraulic cylinders from premature wear

Mining places high demands on hydraulic systems due to the highly abrasive and corrosive nature of the operating environment. HT Hydraulik Technik Gülich-Pohl has developed a new type of coating for its hydraulic cylinders that is suitable for a wide range of applications thanks to its modular build system.

These coatings have a much higher resistance to abrasion and corrosion than other products currently available on the market, it says. “Hydraulic components treated with the new HT coating therefore have a significantly longer service life than is typical for units of this type. This in turn will greatly reduce the amount of time lost on machine repairs and equipment stoppages.”

“The aim of the new material/surface coating combination is to prolong the total service life of the cylinder with as many of its components as possible, thereby marking an end to having to recondition individual parts of the system during the operating life of the equipment. To achieve this, all the components that are subject to mechanical or corrosive stress are provided with the new coating from the HTec range – apart from the seals, which will still have to be replaced on a regular basis.

As well as being used on the piston rod and cylinder inner surface HTec is now also applied to the piston, piston guides and load distribution elements (bearing bushes in the con-rod eye) – thereby providing effective protection from premature wear.
